The Los Angeles Angels will be limping into the all-star break with injuries to Vladimir Guerrero and Torii Hunter.
The pair were placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday morning, causing a big blow to the Angels lineup. Both of the moves were made retroactive to July 8th.
In response the Angels recalled infielder Brandon Wood and catcher Bobby Wilson.
Hunter was placed on the disabled list with an adductor strain on his right rib cage. It is a problem that has been hampering him since May. The move will prevent Hunter from attending the all-star game, where he was chosen as the winner of the players poll.
Guerrero, 34, has a strained muscle behind his right knee which he injured in a game Tuesday against the Rangers making a play in the outfield. It will be the second trip to the disabled list for Guerrero, who tore a pectoral muscle at the beginning of the season. The right fielder came back to the club playing mostly as the teams designated hitter.
Guerrero's power numbers have tumbled this season, as he is hitting .290 with 4 home runs and a .319 on-base percentage in 176 at-bats.
On the other hand Hunter has had a phenomenal year at the plate so far. The center fielder is hitting .305 with 17 home runs and 65 RBI in 285 at-bats.
Wood, a highly touted third baseman and shortstop, is making his second appearance with the Angels this season. His first time up, he only had 9 at-bats but collected three hits. He is hitting .313 with 17 home runs in AAA-Salt Lake.
Wilson, a 26 year old catcher, was hitting .261 with seven homers at Salt Lake.
