It was not a long stay in Oakland for starting pitcher Dana Eveland.
Eveland, who was recalled from the minors on July sixth, made a spot start Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox and was sent back down Wednesday morning.
The start for the 25 year old pitcher did not go well. Eveland lasted just 2 and 1/3 innings against the Red Sox, allowing six hits and four earned runs. The Oakland Athletics went on to lose 5-2.
It has been a difficult season for Eveland, who in six starts is 1-3 with an 8.00 ERA and 2.44 walks and hits per inning. Eveland was initially sent down to the minors in early May after his rough start to the season.
Last season Eveland was a pleasant surprise for the Athletics, who started fast before struggling in the latter half of the season. He ended the year 9-9 with a 4.34 ERA.
The Athletics recalled Jeff Gray to take Eveland's place on the roster. Gray has been up and down twice already, but has just recorded two outs out of the bullpen without allowing a runner on base.
