After another examination from trainer Lonnie Soloff on Tuesday it appears likely that center fielder Grady Sizemore will require surgery to repair inflammation in his left elbow after the season.

Earlier in the year an MRI revealed that there was no structural damage but Sizemore spent time as the designated hitter before finally being placed on the disabled list at the end of May.

Since coming off the disabled on June 23, Sizemore has hit better but he is still struggling compared to his career averages. Sizemore has 10 home runs and a .226 batting average with seven stolen bases. The Cleveland Indians have also shifted him down from the leadoff spot to the 2-hole.

Sizemore hit 33 home runs and stole 38 bases last season while hitting .268 in 634 at-bats.

Sizemore will probably have to play in pain for the remainder of the season. "We hope to keep him away from symptoms that affect his performance or put him at risk of injury," Soloff was quoted as saying on Tuesday
